Thanks Carol.

I admit I was incredibly impressed with Stecher and I now can see the same potential that many here were expressing.

That said I do think it is a little early to pencil him in above Larson. Getting to play with Edler opposed to Tryamkin is going to make a big difference as is the entire D core being much better than the night before. The competition was also Edm opposed to SJ, where they played a run and gun style.

I look forward to seeing Larson get some more opportunities and seeing if he can up his game as well.

Skille is really the only guy they have who could "replace" him and I while he has looked decent I don't see that being realistic. I just hope Dorsett does the things that make him a good player.

Labate and LaPlante are the only other guys in the system that I can think of that would play that type of role but they are a ways off.

I had no idea Labate was so tall. He moves well for his size.

Sure was a feel-good night for some young Canuck prospects, but let's keep in mind it was against an Oiler team that only dressed six NHL regulars. Lucic looked like he was in terrible shape, it's pre-season though, something people need to be constantly reminded of.

One game and I'd swear I was in the Leaf thread

Speaks of which, did you see Auston Matthews comments about breaking a pane of glass lol..."I broke a pane of glass and its headline news for some reason" they're gonna run that kid outta town within three years

sorry for flagging.

Bob McKenzie was just on 1040 commenting on the number of hits the Matthews video got on the TSN website.

Do many fans of other teams go to TSN? I don't usually go to the National sports sites if I don't have to or redirected from the 1040 site. What I have noticed is after every Canuck clip I have watched, if there is a following clip, it is Leaf content. and I shut it down and take a shower.

Though Tanev will not be traded yet, I do think he may be traded before his NTC kicks in(maybe draft day deal) If Gudbrandson shows he can play that shut down roll effectively. At that point a Stetcher is more important in the top 4 as Edler can't do it, and I see Hutton turning into a younger version of Edler. Good for 40pts a year, but better off 2nd pp unit while Stetcher gets 1st and puts up 60pts a year. Eventually, definitelly not this year.

Gudbrandson is in for a big raise, the new faces on D will displace people. This hand may play out sooner than you think.

I really like what Stecher brought to the team last night... did you notice he actually got his shot through to the net???

not like Edler/ Tanev etc... who always hit somebody or miss by a mile... get their shot blocked and the other team goes the other way...

I have almost totally stopped going to the TSN site for the last I'd say 4-5 years... I might have gone there once in the last year at most.

used to comment there, but stopped cuz they'd never post comments... i'd say after the second president's trophy i stopped pretty much.

I would honestly make the Tanev for Landeskog trade(w/e it was, i heard Tanev + Hansen for Landeskog[hopefulyl with a 3rd]) and play Stetcher with Edler. It would likely end badly, but I would roll the dice. Worse case scenerio is that we get another top draft pick, and there looks to be a future #1 defenseman in the top 2, and 2 possible 1c in the top 3. If Stetcher can keep it up, he showed good chemistry with Edler last night, play them together this whole pre-season. He looks like he could put up a 30pt rookie season as a qb. landeskog would help a lot as well.

Baerschi-Sutter/Bo-Rodin/JV

I did like that from the bits I saw. Either shot fake to open a lane or just throw it towards the net. Edler's biggest issue is the windup, takes a lot time and lets shot blockers get into position

Also I think that everyone has reason to be excited, but cant expect Stecher to crack the lineup. Remember Bo-Sven-JV had a 10 point game against the Oilers in the preseason and didnt produce anything similar in the few games they had in the regular season

I think I would rather see how and what this defensive core looks like before trading anyone and penciling in any of the fringe Dmen that need time and experience.

If after that, and the defensive group look solid then start the shopping game.

I agree, but if a deal for a player like landeskog is available now, I would roll the dice. It is hard to get someone his age that can do what he does. JV would be lucky to be Landeskog.

I'd like to see Tanev gone if Stecher can turn some heads... and Edler plus (for Kucherov??)

Send him to Winnipeg plus something for Trouba...

Obviously, McDavid is a scrub, Lucic had to carry him around the ice all night.

Honestly, I had forgotten how glad I was we didn't sign that idiot until we were treated to his intermission interview. I'm sure he isn't in mid-season form but he looked like garbage out there last night.

Honestly I think it would be underestimating Hutton to say he will be another Edler. I see him being more dependable and dynamic. With Juolevi coming in, Hutton will probably be 2nd pairing for most of his career but i honestly think he has top pairing potential.

Oh and also, it's been one game. I don't know if you should hand Stetcher 60 points a year and top 2 potential when he hasn't played against NHLers yet...

Oilers have only had 6 NHL regulars on their roster for the last decade. How is last night any different.
